Economics in STEM, Part II

This workshop will demonstrate how you can help your Grade 2-6 students use economic reasoning to better understand the institutions and processes integral to being effective citizens and consumers. Using the children’s book, Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain, written by Verna Aardema and illustrated by Beatriz Vidal, students will examine economic decision-making and interpret data regarding weather and climate locally and globally. Students will construct an evidence-based argument on the availability of water and its impact on life using the Precipitation Towers: Modeling Weather Data and Modeling the Water Budget lessons created by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory California Institute of Technology. This program will explore how you can use these lessons in both face-to-face and remote instruction. All attendees will receive a $10 Amazon gift card so they can purchase Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain.

Part I occurs on March 2; note each part can be attended independently.
